The Belleville Art Association, located at 392 Front Street, Belleville, received a generous donation of $1500.00 from the RBC Foundation.  On April 30,  Michael Moffat, VP and Investment Advisor for RBC Dominion Securities presented a cheque to Dona Knudsen, current Chair of the Belleville Art Association.  The BAA is grateful for the continued support of the RBC Foundation.  We endeavour to maintain our mandate of engaging in arts-related events and activities that enhance the lives of those living in and visiting the Quinte region and its bordering areas.

The second-to-last show in the 2012 student exhibitions for the UpstARTs Art Programme took place at the BAA Gallery on Sat., April 14.  Also on view were works from the gallery members’ “Hopeful” show.  Thanks to Sandi Marrow, we have photos of some of the works of art, and some of the admiring visitors.  The UpstARTs Gala at the Empire Theatre will take place later this spring. Watch for the upcoming date, and plan to attend an elegant evening viewing the finest works of Quinte area’s young artists, and share the excitement of the awards presentation.

The Belleville Art Association is presently showing an interesting historical exhibiton at the gallery, 392 Front Street in Belleville.  Archival photos, on loan from the Hastings Historical Society, are being displayed in the gallery, and many of the artists’ works are interpretations of these photograpic images. Here are some of the photos and artworks that are on display.  Many more artworks  and photographs are on view, and the gallery encourages everyone to see this historical show. In partnership with Art Galleries and Art Educators in the Quinte Region, the BDIA invite Quinte and
Area Secondary School student artists, of all forms of media, to participate in our first juried exhibition of original artwork. We are accepting submissions of poetry, song, dance, painting, photography and sculpture.

Critical to the success of this show is student participation.  We understand that the way to reach art students is through their teachers, so we are asking you to talk with your students about the Event and its need for entries.  Every student  who submits an entry to the art show has a chance to win an “I Phone ” just for entering.

As all entries must be submitted to the BDIA office, at 267 Front Street by Friday, April 20th, it is
imperative that students be made aware of this opportunity to create and enter their art. Three jurors will participate, and monetary awards will be presented. All students who enter their artwork are eligible to win an Iphone, and there will be opportunities to mentor with experienced artists, enjoy an
Art Walk and buskers with family and friends.

Entry forms are available at local high schools and the John M. Parrott Art Gallery or can be downloaded from www.quinteartscouncil.org or www.rediscsoverdowntown.ca .

The Opening Reception will take place on the evening of May 3rd at the Bohemian Penguin Hall.  Art expressions that are accepted by the jurors, will be displayed in downtown windows throughout
May, with the provision for students to sell their work.
