Elizabeth Coxwell Eby

Artist

Elizabeth is an intuitive painter whose subjects are most often abstract or impressionistic. She loves working with acrylic, mixed media, collage, unusual tools and materials. Complex colour fascinates her so she rarely uses colour straight from a tube.

Her painting process begins with bits of torn paper -old, new, handwritten or printed, scraps of plastic floating by, tickets, book pages, random letters and numbers or whatever at the moment focuses her attention. They can be weathered or pristine and stuck down with a vague sense of emotion or memory or no point in mind at all. Graphite, markers, crayons, inks, pastels and acrylic paints allow the work to continue with an uncontrived looseness. There is a listening and then a responding to what has happened.

The emerging painting seems to be able to better express emotion than words could ever do.
